Most chocolate starts life as a block of ready-made couverture bought in from a factory. Salcombe Dairy’s starts as a bean. This family-owned Devon producer has been crafting award-winning treats in Salcombe since 1979. They’re now one of only a small number of British makers producing true bean-to-bar chocolate, grinding, conching and tempering organic, fairly traded Peruvian cacao in their own chocolate factory on Island Street. The nibs are ground for a full 72 hours to keep their natural “rainforest” flavours. The flagship bar, simply called The Bar, takes its name from the sand bar at the mouth of the Salcombe Estuary.
The range sits within our wider chocolate collection and covers every taste. Dark chocolate lovers can start with the 72% Peruvian dark, then explore the Sea Salt, Tangerine, Ginger, Peppermint and Cacao Nib bars. For something bolder, there’s the 85% Midnight and the fiery Midnight Chilli. The Evening Star darker milk range is a richer, less sweet take on milk chocolate. It includes a Rum & Raisin bar and a Coffee bar that pairs well with something from our coffee range. Classic milk bars include Honeycomb, Orange, Fudge and Caramel & Sea Salt. White Vanilla, White Raspberry and a golden Blond with butterscotch notes complete the line-up, and there’s even a 72% dark with no added sugar.
Beyond the bars, there are butter caramel and dark champagne truffles and Evening Star drinking chocolate, which fits alongside our hot chocolate collection. Beautifully illustrated gift boxes make Salcombe Dairy a natural choice for hampers and gifts. For a special occasion, pair a dark bar with a glass of English sparkling wine.
It’s gluten free, made in a nut-free kitchen, packaged in South Devon and backed by more than 60 awards, including 33 Great Taste awards. This is chocolate made the slow, proper way. Order online at Farmfetch for easy UK delivery.
