RoniB's Kitchen: Why Filipino Food Belongs on Every British Table
Ask most people in the UK to name their favourite Asian cuisines and you'll hear Thai, Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese - perhaps Korean if they're keeping up with food trends. Filipino food, despite being one of the most vibrant and characterful culinary traditions in the world, rarely makes that list. Roni Bandong-McSorley, founder of RoniB's Kitchen, has spent years working to change that - and she's doing it one extraordinary jar at a time.

The story behind the brand
RoniB's Kitchen began as a deeply personal project - a homage to the flavours Roni grew up with in the Philippines. Food that is comfort and love. Simple on the surface, complex underneath. Packed with bold, layered character and rooted in a culinary heritage that stretches back centuries. When Roni couldn't find those flavours authentically represented on UK shelves, she decided to make them herself.
The brand has grown steadily from market stall to national recognition - including a memorable appearance on James Martin's Saturday Morning, where the Filipino Banana Ketchup stopped the show. Since then, the awards have followed: Great Taste Producer since 2021, a 3-Star Great Taste Award for the Black Bean Chilli Paste, 2 Stars for the Kalamansi Marmalade with Don Papa Rum, and Gold at the 2025 Great British Food Awards for the Garlic Chilli Paste.
What makes Filipino food different
Filipino cuisine is built on a beautifully balanced interplay of sweet, sour, salty and umami - often in the same dish. Adobo, the national dish, is a slow braise of meat in vinegar, soy and garlic that is simultaneously tangy, rich and deeply savoury. Kalamansi - a small citrus fruit native to the Philippines - brings a sharp, floral brightness to everything it touches. The "sawsawan" tradition of dipping and condiment culture means that sauces are central to every Filipino meal, not an afterthought.
RoniB's Kitchen captures all of this in products that are accessible to any home cook. The Adobo Sauce is a brilliant shortcut to that slow-cooked depth, perfect as a marinade for meat or tossed through fresh pasta. The Garlic Chilli Oil adds immediate heat and savouriness to anything it touches. The Banana Ketchup - sweet, fruity and unmistakably Filipino - is revelatory alongside a proper charcuterie board or simply with good crackers.
