Moatwood Gin: The Suffolk Farm Putting Sustainability in Every Sip
The gin market is crowded. Walk into any off-licence or scroll through any drinks website and you'll find hundreds of brands all making broadly similar claims - hand-crafted, small-batch, botanical-led. Most are perfectly decent. Very few have a story that genuinely sets them apart.
Moatwood is one of the few.
Where it begins - the farm
Moatwood Gin is made on a 2,500-acre regenerative farm in Coblands, Suffolk, where the team have committed to a vision of land stewardship that goes well beyond the bottle. Sustainable farming, thriving biodiversity and productive agriculture working in harmony - that's the ambition, and the gin is a direct expression of it.
The star of the show - quite literally - is starflower, also known as borage. This vibrant blue flower is wild-foraged directly from the farm's rewilding project and forms the botanical heart of Moatwood's flavour profile. Growing starflower as part of the arable rotation boosts biodiversity and improves soil health, and rather than letting the flower go to waste, the Moatwood team realised it could bring something genuinely special to a gin: a light, accessible, subtly floral note that sets it apart from the competition.

The craft behind the bottle
Moatwood uses a single-shot distillation method - chosen both for its sustainability and for the quality it delivers. Rather than diluting a concentrated base spirit, every batch is distilled to its final strength from the outset, extracting the purest possible flavour from each botanical.
What makes the process particularly distinctive is the dual extraction technique. Five core botanicals — juniper, ginger, orris root, coriander seed and aloe - are macerated to develop their bold character. Then starflower, elderflower and sweet orange are vapour-infused, capturing their delicate floral and citrus notes without overpowering the base. The result is a gin that manages to be both layered and exceptionally easy to drink.
Sustainability beyond the distillery
Moatwood's commitment to the environment doesn't stop at the farm gate. As a member of 1% for the Planet, they pledge 1% of total revenue to environmental organisations, with a key partnership with SeaTrees - who plant, protect and restore coastal ecosystems including kelp forests, mangrove swamps and coral reefs. It's a genuinely meaningful commitment that adds real purpose to every purchase.
How to enjoy it
The classic serve is simple: 50ml over ice with a premium tonic and a twist of orange, which brings out the gin's subtle citrus notes beautifully. For something longer, try it with ginger beer and fresh lime. If you want to go full Negroni, it holds its own admirably alongside a good vermouth from our liqueurs & aperitifs range. For gifting, it sits perfectly in any of our gin gift sets alongside something from our flavoured gin selection.
Sustainably farmed, beautifully crafted and genuinely delicious — Moatwood is exactly the kind of gin Farmfetch was built to champion. Shop the range online for easy UK delivery.
